Meet Everest, a 2-year-old Husky with a big smile, a beautiful coat, and a heart full of love to give.
Today, Everest is living her best life with her adoptive family, turning heads on every walk. Strangers can't help but stop and admire her. But Everest's journey to her forever home wasn't easy. In fact, she spent six long months at the Salt Lake County Dog Shelter before finding her perfect match, Erin Kean.
You're probably wondering, "How did it take 6 months for Everest to be adopted?!"
Well, Everest wasn't exactly the type of dog everyone was looking for. At 90 pounds, she was a bit big for apartment living. And as a 2-year-old Husky, she was considered "old" by shelter standards. But what really made things tough was her emotional trauma. Everest would yelp whenever someone tried to touch her, a heartbreaking reminder of her difficult pre-shelter life.
Potential adopters had to meet with the shelter’s "Behavioral Team" before even considering taking her home. This was to ensure Everest wouldn’t be returned to the shelter if things didn’t work out. The team was dedicated to finding the right home for her, and while it took time, their patience and dedication paid off.

They didn’t rush her adoption just to clear a spot; they made sure Everest found the right home, no matter how long it took. They dedicated their limited time and resources to helping a dog that many might have overlooked, and in the process, they helped uncover the wonderful companion Everest was meant to be.
