Learn the adoption story of Sheriff & Iggy!

Sheriff & Iggy❣️

It was the middle of winter, and I was feeling pretty down. I had recently lost my heart-dog, a wild Cattle Dog mix, and without him, my house felt unbearably quiet. The kind of quiet that sinks deep into your soul. Late one night, I found myself scrolling through Petfinder, missing the chaos, when a tiny Red Heeler pup at Roosevelt Animal Services caught my eye. In the photo, he was being held—small, tense, and scared. My heart skipped a beat, and I knew I had to go get him the very next day.

Two Pups, One Decision

When I arrived, I discovered there weren’t just one, but TWO Red Heeler brothers. Both were under-vaccinated and in a high-risk shelter environment. It felt like fate had thrown me a curveball. My heart was still tender from the loss of my previous dog, and the thought of leaving one of them behind crushed me. Luckily, a local rescue, Herding Haven, offered to sponsor one of the pups if I fostered him. That way, he’d have a better shot at finding a home in the city. With that, I knew I couldn’t wait—these pups needed out of the shelter, and fast.

Anything for these two ❤️

I convinced my dad, a former trucker always up for an impulsive adventure, to drive me 3.5 hours to Roosevelt. We piled into his SUV—because, let’s face it, it was way safer than my car in the snow—and set off through an intense snowstorm.

By the time we made it back, we had two wild little redhead pups in tow. 🥰 🐶 🐶

Sheriff & Iggy: Double the Love

I decided to keep the wilder, more intense brother, who I named Sheriff—because, well, he was clearly the boss. The more mellow, sensitive pup seemed like he’d be easier to adopt out, but honestly, I loved them both equally. My parents offered to help foster him, and wouldn’t you know it, their anxious female Cattle Dog fell head over paws for him. They decided to keep him and named him Iggy Pup.

Two Homes, One Family

Now, Sheriff and Iggy get the best of both worlds. They play together whenever they want, but go home to their separate houses—bringing endless joy and laughter to both families. These two boys light up our lives with their wild energy, affection, and love. Sheriff and Iggy are so deeply loved, and I can’t imagine life without them.
