The right high-quality ingredients are really important. But the way the ingredients are put together is just as important. Baking kibble changes the nutritional integrity of ingredients in your dog food.
That’s why we’ve created a dehydrated dog food. It’s a better way to deliver minimally processed, high-quality ingredients and maintain the integrity of those ingredients.

What is Dehydrated Dog Food?

Dehydrated dog food is made of mostly dehydrated and freeze-dried ingredients (obviously…). Dehydration is the process of removing water or moisture from a food product. Removing moisture from foods makes them smaller and lighter and makes them last longer without going bad. Pupford dog food also has non-dehydrated ingredients, like flaxseed, that don’t need to go through the same processes to function the same.

All you have to do is scoop the right amount of powder for your pup out of the bag and mix it with water, let it sit for a minute or two, then feed it to your good boy or girl. They’ll love the taste (we guarantee it) and you’ll love knowing your fur baby is getting all necessary nutrients for a healthy life.

Chicken liver flavor is extremely palatable by dogs, and you’ll notice as soon as you put the bowl down.

Taurine, DL-Methionine, L-Lysine (Amino Acids)

These are building blocks and main components of proteins which are called essential amino acids. Essential means that they must be present in food as they cannot be produced at all or in sufficient quantities by the body to meet the needs. Make sure your pup gets these essentials amino acids with our dehydrated dog food.

potato starch in dog food | Pupford

Potato Starch

This unique ingredient know as dysphagia starch, has been promoted as a form of carbohydrate that resists digestion by salivary enzymes, especially amylase. One of the key factors in formulating our dog food with dysphagia starch is its mode of action. First, it is a combination of modified and natural ingredients such as maltodextrin, potato starch, xanthan gum and potassium chloride which as a team, makes the whole recipe reach higher viscosity level, making it more palatable for your pup. Since it is resistant to amylase digestion, it stays thicker as it is going from the mouth through the esophagus towards the stomach, improving bolus movement control.

lentil flour in dog food | Pupford

It is considered a form of dietary fiber, to help your pup’s digestive system.

citrus powder for dog food | Pupford

Orange Bitter Peel

Citrus fruits are composed of many organic compounds and metabolites which have many excellent health benefits. One of them is their fiber content, divided almost equally between soluble (fibers being fermented and utilized in the colon of the animals) and insoluble (more complex carbohydrates which have mechanical action on the digestive system but still going through staying mostly intact). While having potential beneficial effects on stools quality, the orange bitter peel also influences final food texture and mouthfeel for your pup.

flaxseeds for dog food | Pupford

Whole flaxseeds contain a very high level of oil (41%) as well as an excellent fiber source. Flaxseed oil is the best vegetable source of Omega-3 fatty acids (ALA) as its fat is made of 54% of it. Flaxseeds play an important role in our dehydrated dog food to aid in digestive systems for your dog.

Fructo-Oligosaccharides (FOS) - PREBIOTICS | Pupford

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS): Prebiotics

Prebiotics are essentially carbohydrates that are not digested in the stomach or small intestine (i.e. non-caloric) and not utilized by pathogens. Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are carbohydrates derived from chicory roots, sugar beet or sugar cane and used as food source for the naturally present good bacteria as well as probiotics which could be added to food as a supplement. They aid digestion by allowing these beneficial bacteria and probiotics to lower intestinal pH (which means providing a more acid environment). This inhibits both pathogens and putrefying bacteria and thus reduces stool odor. The prebiotic/beneficial bacteria tandem is also believed to have a positive impact on immune system function.

yeast extract for dog food | Pupford

Mannan-Oligosaccharides (MOS): Yeast Extract

Mannan-oligosaccharides are carbohydrates derived from yeasts cellular wall which can help limit the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria (such as salmonella and E. coli mainly). These bacteria will attach to MOS instead of becoming attached to intestinal wall cells and are then excreted with stools. MOS also stimulate the production of mucin, a protein present in the mucus that coats and protects the intestinal wall (lining) and represents the first line of defense against invaders such as bad pathogenic bacteria as well as toxic matter.

organic acids in dogs | Pupford

Organic Acids

A mixture of fumaric, citric, lactic, and malic acids encapsulated and protected by fat in order to ensure their release in the intestine instead of the stomach are also included to help improve digestive system health. This group of unique functional ingredients acidifies the intestinal environment, favoring the growth of beneficial bacteria over that of pathogens. This then facilitates the presence of beneficial bacteria by acidifying intestinal bowel, which would also help reduce the presence of pathogenic bacteria (which do not like acidic environment).

thyme extract for dog food | Pupford

Thyme Extract

Thyme extract is a source of natural essential oils including thymol, carvacrol, and phenols which help stabilize the digestive system. Obtained by steam distillation of thyme leaves, this extract has antimicrobial activity at very low concentrations. Calcium Butyrate

This is a source of butyric acid, a short-chain volatile fatty acid. Bacteria produce butyric acid by fermentation (e.g. of plant fiber or other undigested carbohydrates) and thus provide nourishment to the cells lining the large intestine. Calcium butyrate helps maintain a healthy villi structure in the small intestine and hence improves nutrient absorption capacity. It also improves digestion by stimulating digestive secretions and inhibits pathogenic bacteria.

yucca schidigera extract | Pupford

Yucca Schidigera Extract

betaine for dog food | Pupford

Betaine Hydrochloride

Although it can contribute to meeting choline chloride (a B vitamin) and methionine requirements, betaine, naturally found in sugar beets, is more properly described as a permethylated amino acid. It is a cell membrane structure component and is involved in neurotransmitter synthesis and methionine metabolism. It helps prevent dehydration by acting as an osmoregulator (enabling cells to maintain optimal water content). Under normal feeding conditions, it helps reduce the energy cost associated with primary metabolism, is involved in liver functions and helps maintain digestive, intestinal and urinary health as well as skin health and optimal body weight.

l-carnitine for dogs | Pupford

Also called vitamin Bt, L-Carnitine is an amino acid that has an important role in the utilization of fat as a source of energy and hence in weight control. The body obtains it either by endogenous synthesis or from foods such as red meat. Its primary function is to facilitate the transport of long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria, inside which they are converted into energy. These fatty acids cannot otherwise cross the mitochondrial membrane. Only a certain % of the L-carnitine requirement is met by synthesis in the body, so supplementation is often a positive element for the metabolism.

beta-glucans for dog food | Pupford

Beta-glucans are natural polysaccharides extracted from autolyzed yeast. They are composed of only glucose in the beta-1,3 linkage. They, therefore, cannot be digested and absorbed as glucose by animals. They are believed to aid the immune system by activating macrophages, which are key immune cells in all mammals and fishes, engulfing and destroying viruses and bacteria. Beta-glucans have produced scientifically demonstrated benefits in dogs.

pasteurized spray dried egg for dogs | Pupford

Pasteurized Spray Dried Egg

This is one of the latest innovations in animal nutrition. Laying hens reared in a controlled environment are exposed to viruses and bacteria that cause diseases in domestic pets. The hens produce antibodies (immunoglobulin) specific for the pathogens, whether the disease concerns them or not, and a portion of these antibodies is incorporated into the eggs. The eggs are processed to maximize functional immunoglobulin and beneficial co-factor contents and pasteurized to yield a natural dietary supplement containing immunoglobulin, intended to support the immune system and thus improve general health. Some results suggest that this product may also help to alleviate or reduce the frequency of joint problems, digestive disorders, and other stress-related conditions.
